3rd Annual Urban Native Education Conference

The Chicago American Indian Community Collaborative’s Education Committee invites you to attend the 3rd annual Urban Native Education Conference. This year’s conference will take place in Chicago, IL on May 3-4, 2019 at 2651 W Washington Blvd.

The mission of the CAICC Education Committee is to provide, advocate and support an inter-tribal urban system of education, through networks of Native American Programs and other providers to increase academic and career success for multi-generations which recognizes formal education and tribal cultures/traditions.

The theme of the 3rd annual Urban Native Education Conference is Nurturing Our Knowledge Keepers. The organizers of this conference are situated in Native Chicago, by which they mean that their focus, research, teaching, and service is working for and with American Indian people and communities in the Chicago area. With more than 70% of the Indigenous population of the U.S. living primarily in urban settings, it is clear that urban Indian education is a significant issue.

Our theme this year– Nurturing Our Knowledge Keepers – speaks to the generational interdependence of Native people. How do we, as Native people, as educators, as scholars, as policymakers, secure the transferal of knowledge from one generation to the next? How do we honor and protect the knowledge keepers of today while providing learning opportunities and safe environments for the knowledge keepers of tomorrow?
