Accomplishments
- CAICC and the Indian Child Welfare Advocacy Program worked together to establish the first-ever Native American advisory board consisting of community representatives within the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
- A resolution was passed recognizing the 150th anniversary of the Sand Creek Massacre adopted by the City of Chicago presented by Alderman Edward M. Burke.
- CAICC leaders met with Alderman Burke to thank him for his leadership and the resolution, share contemporary issues and opportunities through CAICC, and talk about specific issues that are ready for action.
- Chicago Mayoral Race- CAICC sent letters to each mayoral candidate to address how they would serve the Native American community.
- Governor Rauner visited the American Indian Center where he expressed support of a Statewide Illinois Native American Commission.
